5 Self Improvement Tips for Personal Power, Peak Performance and Prosperity

I believe that, ultimately, we all want peace and fulfillment more than anything else.
Of course, there are other things we want. And truth is, we must actualize some of these other things if we are to attain deep and lasting peace.
Of course, fulfillment itself comes primarily, if not exclusively, from actualizing our other needs, such as the need for growth, contribution, stimulation and mattering.
All of these things mean we must master our mindset - our beliefs, habitual thoughts and expectations. We must be committed to personal development. Only if we are developing personally will our lives develop materially.
Here are five tips to create greater peace, motivation and mindset mastery.
1. Accept only self-compassion and positive self-talk.
This is a tough one. Most of us engage in self-flagellation, to one degree or another. This emanates from our belief-set; our mindset.
Make an active and habitual practice to seek out and compliment yourself on your skills, virtues and wins.
Habitually recognize, praise and congratulate yourself, as you would a child you love.
Seriously. Make a conscious, active and habitual practice of this. You will be amazed at how this practice alone will massively change your habitual mindset, feelings and emotions. Increasing your state of being, motivation, joy and fulfillment.
At the end of each day, make a list of three to five things you did well. Also add one thing you will do better next time. Always keep the ratio skewed at least 3 to 1 towards the positive.
2. Never compare yourself to others.
We all have our own path, our own brain, mind and personality. Another's path has no bearing whatsoever on our validity, ability or journey - other than in the empowering lessons we can take from their lives.
Learn from others, but don't ever compare yourself to others.
Use lessons from others for personal development and success. But never compare yourself to another.
Believe in yourself. Be aware of and grateful for your strengths, while determined to constantly grow and improve.
3. Accept, even celebrate, that life will absolutely have disappointments and pain. They are the fuel to self improvement.
We all want to grow. To figure things out. And to matter. We all want to create and experience personal success.
Success equals change. Positive change. Growth.
If WE aren't growing and developing, our lives cannot grow and develop.
When do we grow most? Heck, for most of us, most of the time, when do we grow at all?
When we experience obstacles, disappointments and pain. When we hit setbacks, which fuel motivation and determination to change and make things better. And only when we change for the better do our results change for the better.
Hack your mind to revel in obstacles, disappointments and, yes, even pain. Know that they are not permanent. Nor are they an indication of any lack on your part. See and feel them and beautiful opportunities to take advantage of and accelerate personal development. They bring us closer to being the person and success for which we are destined.
4. There is no failure, but in failing to begin or failing to continue.
I passionately believe this to be true. Whatever our outcomes, we only fail in not trying or giving up.
Stay true to your ultimate purpose, mission and vision and adjust your strategies and tactics as wisdom dictates.
Changing direction isn't necessarily failure or negative. Don't give up on your dream, but do stay true to your soul. If you are truly meant for a path other than the current one you placed yourself on, accept that and move passionately onto the new path.
Be generous, loving, kind and compassionate with yourself. Have and hold yourself to high standards, but with loving compassion and optimism that you will capitalize on and prevail in all circumstances. Treat yourself with the love, patience and compassion a wise altruistic elder would treat the beautiful soul of a child.
5. Love yourself. Believe you are perfect. But that you will become more perfect each day and that the journey is never over.
Keep this self-image. Constantly love, support, praise and humor yourself as you would the child or friend you most love or as you would be loved and supported by a loving, more seasoned and wiser person who would love you.
But also keep the thirst for personal development and success burning within. We are all works in process. Perfect as we are today, but driven to an even higher level of perfection today and tomorrow.
There you have it. Five habitual practices that will help bring you all you are after: Love, peace, prosperity, growth, stimulation and, probably, anything else your soul desires.
Cheers friends.
What do you want more of? Money? Career growth? Fulfillment?
As they say: "to get something we've never had, we must do something we've never done."
There is definite science & art to prosperity & success.

How Might You DEVELOP Your Assets/Skills?

Have you ever wondered why some others, who you consider, less - skilled, and lacking many of the talents and attributes, you possess, sometimes, seem to succeed, when you have less than stellar results? It might be, your self - perceptions, are overly optimistic and positive, or, while you have many quality skills, etc, you have not sufficiently developed them, to your best interest! Wouldn't it, therefore, make sense, to proceed forward, in an introspective, objective manner, and do, everything possible, to positively, DEVELOP your personal skills and/ or assets, in order to, become the best, you might be? With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means, and how it might be helpful, and personally, gratifying.
1. Delve deeply; discover: Many of us, make the same mistake, of assuming, we know what we do best, as well as our personal strengths and weaknesses. However, it is wise, to take the time, and make the effort, to delve deeply, in as introspective and objective manner, as possible, to identify these, in a realistic manner. What might you commit to, in order to discover, what you need to do, to seek self - improvement?
2. Excellence: Are you willing to go beyond, the norm, and avoid taking the often - easier path, of settling for good - enough? Your personal greatness, will only present itself, when you consistently, commit to the highest degree of personal excellence!
3. Vision; view: Have you ever considered your personal, vital, vibrant vision? Are you certain, it is yours, and you are not, simply, adopting that, of others? Would you like you, if objectivity, was your perspective and commitment? How do you view yourself, and does that drive you forward, by providing you with a greater degree of self - confidence, or is it a detriment?
4. Emphasis; evolve; empathy: Do you possess genuine empathy, which helps you better understand, the needs, goals, and perceptions of others? Why have you opted for a particular emphasis? Are you ready, willing and able, to evolve, consistently, to become a better person?
5. Listen; learn: While many people take courses, go to school, or participate in certain training, you'll only maximize the benefit, if you consistently, learn from every conversation, and experience. Transforming listening effectively, to improved judgment, and hopefully, wisdom, should be your objective!
6. Options; opportunities; opinions: Will you be one of the few, who proceeds forward, consistently, and examines multiple options, in a way, which positions you, to recognize and take advantage of the finest opportunities? How will you evaluate, whether your opinion, is based on logic, or merely, rhetoric?
7. Priorities: philosophy; perception; planning: It's important to realize, one's perceptions, often, impact their priorities! Will your developed, philosophy, be helpful, to you, by permitting you, to commit to the best, possible, relevant planning?
It's often not about your skills, and assets, but, rather, how you use and DEVELOP them, in a personally, beneficial way! Will you seek, to become, the best you can be?

A Growth Mindset

How many people have a memory seared into their brains of one particular mistake made in school or on the job that was simply so mortifying that they never, ever, ever made that same mistake again? In other words, they learned the hard way but they really learned that lesson. For life.
I was listening to an interview last week with Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code, in which she was discussing her inspiration for starting the non-profit organization. In short, she was galvanized by the disparity she saw between the way girls and boys were taught to approach risk and potential failure throughout childhood and adolescence. She saw girls being encouraged to strive for perfection, therefore making them less likely to seek out new challenges or activities at which they might fail. She felt that coding, an endeavor that could easily be described as a never-ending series of tweaks, mini-failures, and fixes, was not only a valuable way to "re-train" this failure avoidance in young girls, but also an important step in closing the gender gap in the technology field.
This got me thinking about mistake-driven learning and the importance of having the freedom to safely fail in education. In his recent article, 7 Benefits of Mistake-driven Learning, Christopher Pappas advocates for its advantages in reinforcing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, higher-level learning capacity, and the key role that trial & error + solution reformulation plays in boosting knowledge retention and comprehension. He makes the case that creating an eLearning environment where students are safe to explore consequences to their actions, and then revise their approach based on individual outcomes, is crucial to preparing them for success in the real world.
In another write-up, the same author talks even more specifically about the benefits of applying Repair Theory, which explains the fundamental role of mistakes in procedure-based learning, to the eLearning design process. By implementing realistic simulations, branching scenarios, and real-time, personalized feedback for eLearners, it is possible to create a learning environment in which students are not only safe to fail and learn from their mistakes, but one that also provides contextual layers upon which the learner is able to apply new their knowledge.
One of my recent projects involved the development of online scenario-based case studies for students in health sciences programs. Talk about a field in which rote memorization of processes and procedures will just not cut it! For students in these programs, a thorough understanding built upon a scaffolding of contextual knowledge and interconnected concepts is critical. And so the instructional design of these online cases must create an ecosystem in which the students can immerse themselves in scenarios, use critical thinking skills to make interlinked decisions, and learn from their own mistakes in a safe online environment.
The idea that we learn most effectively from real experience and from our mistakes is applicable in education and in business because it is so deeply rooted in human behavior. No one wants to make mistakes and we all (at some point) shy away from the possibility of failure. But how much better would we be if we could let go of that limiting fear, allow ourselves to be brave enough to try new things and test uncharted waters, in order to then fail fast and become better?
Never Stop Learning.

Improving Your Stage Presence

Why do you feel giving 100% of yourself to something in the first place? And why notice the small stuff not adding up? The attempt to create a new idea, as in building a social network, even landing roles for an audition to simply work on your own to make some money... DID YOU think to yourself it will be easy? (I didn't). What about your stage presence in the world at large, did you wonder if one form of acting had anything to do with your not acting well in other places of your life?
Me, I had a "why" question for everything. From why my life worked or didn't, to why my hustle or ambition wasn't aligning any more to my reality than my personal clarity reflecting my own inner authority. Did I REALLY even feel "at all" I can change these things about my life in the first place; From my fixed work habits to new beginnings, assuming I had some access and control to the power stage (within me already activated and design to help me win.)
This level of awareness is where I found I've been saving for others the saying: EXPERIENCE is THE BEST TEACHER, and not ever once considering it for myself. I missed the part where I am THE CREATOR of my own Masterpiece.
I would block out the rest of the world (mentally) just to tune my mind some where I was not to keep from discovering my own life's energy. I sometime felt I was a record spinning out of control and muted most of the times whole songs (EVENTS) playing noise in my head, I eventually got to the place where SOMETHING had to give: where I'd tell close friends... KNOW what you saying to YOURSELF even though I didn't follow my own advice. It happened all the time in shifts of NOW.
The hardest TIME in the world is... MOVING and fast and right in the right direction. Many of us we look for the light, except the insight might seem to be holding still...
"Humming." To do what everybody else is doing. THIS is the action position many of us are using for a POST UP stage presence..to FEEL included or joined in synced to the frequency of A TIME. Except this is not enough to later feel honored or represented... like taking medicine not knowing if you got the illness or even are sick.
We can miss the moments to SHINE, acting unaware of ourselves..being lost in our sense of what today might be about; sometime reasoning is not enough and never gaining CONSCIOUSNESS in part, while we drift in our so call PASSIONS, seeming full with gaps minus any type of luck or opportunity. I think in a heartbeat we all experience a kind of VIBE which does go unnoticed, it is this power within that touches us AND at given 100% of our self to an ACT.
My point the next time you feel your stuff is not adding up and feeling frustrated to go alone with everyBODY around you..instead go within your own heart. Find your shortcomings, your misgivings or the doubts. While therein is the feedback and everything which will remind you of the emotional wave that keeps you out of touch with your best character, YOU.
Open to the sea of experience, appearing to crash over the growth (pain) in each fade of tides to a single blend. Start showing up AS YOURSELF..even when NATURALLY we're suppose to... ACT LIKE WAVES baring a stage presence not of our own makings, it is this finding of our experience for BEING EMOTIONAL something miraculous happens! Sometimes the vibe of risking it all for THE OPPORTUNITY pulls us IN and unsuspectingly to feel free! Most times it will not happen all at once... especially when we act alone. Pay attention I say..we are able to collect the moments... A PARADISE of our own makings.

The Price of Hard Work

Everybody wants to be famous, but nobody wants to do the task without realizing that the price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.
The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with drive and passion, it's possible. It is the real key to success. Keep your eyes on your goal and keep taking the next step towards achieving it. If you aren't sure which way to do something, do it both ways and see which works better.
Enjoy your sweat because it doesn't guarantee success, but without it you don't have a chance. I do not believe in excuses. I believe that it is the primary solution to life's problems. We all naturally want to become successful. It opens opportunities and shows the world that you are serious about being one of those peculiar human beings who use their talents at optimum level and do their very best. However, the moment we believe that success is determined by an a deep-seated level of ability as opposed to resilience, we will be vulnerable in the face of adversity.
Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them. Most of the time you will fail, but you will also occasionally succeed. Those occasional successes make it worthwhile. In a lot of ways, success is much harder than we thought it would be.You'd get there and then everything would be happily ever after. But, it's almost harder once you're successful because you've got to maintain it.
Writing is work. It takes a lot of contemplation, concentration, and sweat. People are charmed with the idea that somehow writing is easy and appears by benefit of some mystical external force. In reality, to be a writer, you have to sit down and write. It's work, and often it's hard work.
I would rather have one article a day of this sort; and these ten or twenty lines might readily represent a whole day's hard work in the way of concentrated, intense thinking and revision rather than sit and do nothing productive.
It's shown and proved that working hard pays off. So,build your goals, achieve them and replace them with new goals. Even if there were moments when we were disappointed and frustrated.
This talks about how our hardwork pays off. Difficult but possible.

Do not stress out; at the end of this article, you will be well-informed about how to be happy to go to work and stay happy when working.
First, you should realize that your state of mind has a direct impact on your attitude at work. And your work has a lot of influence on your mood. Given that, it is crucial that you find the right job or work that makes you happy. However, if you are not satisfied with your existing work, you need to find ways to be happy so that you will not feel burdened.
#1. See The Bigger Picture - The Work Is a Means to an End
You should have personal goals to achieve in your chosen career. To be seen as an experienced professional or worker in your chosen field, you must satisfy certain conditions such as years of experience and overall attitude to work.
Your work is undoubtedly one major way to climb specific ladders in your career. Consequently, you need to see your work as a means to achieve your career goals, and every passing day, you are getting closer to becoming an authority in your career.
#2. Change Your Attitude - Feel Fulfilled
Nothing can be more effective than changing your attitude about your work. While other people, including you, view your work as being overly tasking and boring, see your work as exciting and fun. Picture the complicated processes in your work as a puzzle game and gift yourself a trophy or prize when you finish each day's work completing your duty - like a cup of cappuccino.
#3. Embrace Co-workers - You Are Not Competitors But Partners
Irrespective of the attitude of your co-workers, you need to embrace them to be happy at work. You are meant to complement one another and achieve the organizational goals together. And you need them to meet your targets and deliver expected goals. You are partners; find a reason to like each one of your colleagues.
#4. Find a Reason to be Proud of Your Work

Be a part of something that your company does that makes you happy, then you will always be happy to go to work.

Out Of The Woods

Who is perfect? That is a silly rhetorical question, because at times, God or whatever rules the universe does not even seem to be perfect the way this world can seem to anyone unconscious or fully conscious about what is really going on. However, this is the way out of the woods of confusion: Get competent at living and be genuinely detail oriented and careful about what you experience in reality. Oh, that seems simple, indeed, is it easy to practice? As we can tell by everything that goes "not to plan" in reality, it is not an easy thing at all.
Every life wants to scream "action now!" or "give up!" at different times in its evolution and reality, but, like the game life genuinely is, life must be played to the best of the ability of the person playing it and a "cool head" and even temper must be kept even in the worst or best circumstances. That means, when things get bad you must take a balanced and rational approach to keep on an even keel even when things get at their worst. Even when things are great you cannot get carried away on a "lucky streak" or full of yourself like nothing else wrong can happen.
That last sentence in the last paragraph makes me think of the Kevin Hart car accident in the Malibu Hills, you can have all the "great luck" and "blessings" in the world, but if you do not have an even temper and realistic attitude about them, having it made can go wrong in the worst way that is corrupted by carelessness upon yourself. On the other hand, even in the worst situations, there can be a way out if you are patient, understanding, tolerant, creative and intelligent: I look at the singer in the Los Angeles subway system, Emily Zamourka on the other hand to the example of Kevin Hart I just mentioned. Through her creativity and inner strength, I understand that she is ultimately going to help herself out of a bad situation as homelessness, and "being down on luck" is. I get it, whether good or bad, for things to work, and to get through the woods, you must have a cautious, logical, realistic and even temper that is conducive to successfully navigating life in a good, rational and successful way ultimately, or end up "failing like the rest who do not make it" by thinking things are easy, and that the game does not take skill, work, or a householders attitude. What I mean by a householders attitude is a realistic work ethic, cautiously guarding your advantages, and best of all thinking realistically and deeply always, taking nothing for granted. After all, the key to all anger management is simply a rational approach to all situations that sees both sides of a problem objectively anyway. Ultimate subjectivity is irrational anger. Sure, I believe in right and wrong, and there are times to get angry, but also I understand that everything must be looked at realistically to be valid, anger or "normal" good temperament. So, finally I look at it this way, genuine success is perfection, genuine failure is the ultimate imperfection through our attitudes, perceptions and understanding about reality.
My name is Joshua Clayton, I am a freelance writer based in Inglewood, California. I also write under a few pen-names and aliases, but Joshua Clayton is my real name, and I write by that for the most part now. I am a philosophical writer and objective thinker and honest action taker. I also work at a senior center in Gardena, California as my day job, among other things, but primarily I am a writer.

Can You Hear Me?

Have you ever experienced a moment when you realized that the thing you asked your staff, teammates, or even your children to do yesterday still hasn't been done - even when you gave them very clear instructions? It's easy to point blame, but consider this: it could be they really didn't hear what you thought you communicated.
We often don't effectively reach our goals because we fail to take into account how we communicate. Studies have shown that communication is the most common thing managers do, spending 60% to 80% of their time communicating with their teams. However, stats also suggest most managers are bad communicators. In one relevant survey, 86% of managers thought they were good communicators, but only 17% of the employees surveyed said their managers did indeed communicate effectively. Another survey uncovered that only 14% of people rated their managers as "good" or "very good" communicators.
Even if you're not a manager, realizing the importance of good communication is still your responsibility. The hours wasted on projects that have to be redone because of the lack of communication between coworkers is staggering. Similarly, the job seeker often struggles with how to communicate their skills in a way that sets them apart.
Changing the way you communicate isn't easy, but I do have three simple words to help you make this change easier: Repeat, Confirm and Clarify!
REPEAT what you thought you heard or ask those receiving the instructions to repeat what they heard. You might be surprised at how their understanding of what you said is actually quite off.
Secondly, CONFIRM the deadlines. Everyone must understand the expectation and urgency of the matter at hand. For example, job seekers should always confirm when they should expect to next connect after an interview. Say things like, "If I don't hear from you by this date, can I follow up?" This keeps the process and line of communication moving.
Lastly, CLARIFY how to communicate back that the duty or task is done. Is a presentation in order? Will a phone call suffice? Find a tangible example of how this communication will take place.
A plan to Repeat, Confirm and Clarify may sound simple, but it can be a challenge if you're in a rush to get back to a project or move on to the next one. It also gets more complicated the more people you have to communicate with.
So ask yourself if there's evidence you might need to develop a better communication strategy. If so, take time and effort to truly be heard, simply starting with three simple words: Repeat, Confirm and Clarify.
Once you master this approach consistently, you'll like the answer you get when asking, "Can you hear me now?!"

Happiness May Save Your Life

1. Happiness is a habit.
There has been so much reporting of tragedy, hurt, pain, and suffering recently that I have found myself joining in the familiar mantra of gloom misery and despair that friends, colleagues all repeat on a regular basis. It now almost feels obscene to express joy or happiness anymore.
There is no question that very many people are being impacted and affected daily by a variety of pain, sorrow and loss, and compassion must be shown to them. However, there are also many other people who have made complaints and unhappiness the order of the day.
The truth of the matter is that happiness is a state of the mind. You have the freedom to choose happiness; it's as simple as that. The great things of life are usually simple, dynamic and creative.
Begin now to choose happiness. This takes being mindful of a desire to be happy. Reverse the mantra of blame, accusations, condemnations and judgements. Avoid thoughts that are repeated regularly and that systematically sink into the subconscious mind and become habitual. Happiness is a habit.
2. The desire to be happy.
In order to be happy, you must sincerely desire to be happy. There was a time when almost every day when I woke up, I had a kick in my step and a smile on my face. As time progressed, I found that this state was becoming less instinctive and I literarily had to drag my thoughts and demeanour away from what I didn't want to one of joy and happiness.
This is not to say I was or am in denial of whatever challenges of my environment there might be to overcome. I'm simply making a choice in spite of that, to be happy.
There are people who have been depressed, dejected and unhappy for so long that even when something joyful or good happens to them, they have become accustomed to the old mental patterns of unhappiness that they do not feel comfortable being happy. They long for the former depressed unhappy state.
Sometimes people become addicted to the attention (albeit negative) from being miserable and unhappy. There is an expression that 'misery loves company', and there is a pull to bring others into this unholy alliance. There seems to be a peculiar mental, morbid streak in many people, whereby they seem to enjoy being miserable sad and unhappy.
Many people choose unhappiness by entertaining bleak thoughts such as: 'everything is going to go wrong', 'I'm not going to succeed', everyone is against me', 'business is bad and going to get worse', and I never get any breaks'. Having this attitude of mind first thing in the morning will undoubtedly leave you feeling unhappy. Worse still, it leaves you unavailable and unprepared for the opportunities that may come your way that day.
Begin to realize the world you live in is determined largely by what goes on in your mind. The thoughts you habitually entertain in your mind have the tendency to actualize themselves in physical conditions. I am always amazed at how creative and productive I become when I take control of my thoughts and not allow them to run rampant and reckless; during which time I lose the ability to think intelligently.
3. Wealth in and of itself does not make a person happy.
Wealth in and of itself does not make a person happy, though it is also not a deterrent to happiness. Today, there are many people trying to buy happiness through material acquisitions. The key to happiness is in your thoughts and feelings. Too many people have the idea that it takes something artificial to produce happiness, whereas happiness is a mental and spiritual state.
Few of us will get through life without experiencing some episode of anxiety, anger, worry or depression. However, we can all learn to handle difficult emotions, the key is training our minds in compassion. Compassion towards ourselves and other people can help us heal our turbulent minds and enhance your well-being. Compassionate thinking is a skill, much like learning to play an instrument, something that can be enhanced with dedicated practice.
The practice of regulating thoughts and emotions can be useful for those prone to anxiety or depression and learning compassion for other people can help with gaining perspective. When we find compassion for others, in so doing we strengthen our characters and enhance our well-being. Nigeria is a country screaming for compassion for and by its people.
Recognizing that we are all mortal and imperfect and that is part of what we share as a human experience is an important part of compassion. Having compassion for others and ultimately ourselves means we honour and accept our humanness. Things will not always go our way. We will encounter frustrations and loss. We will make mistakes, fall short of our ideals, face big or small challenges and encounter personal failings. Having compassion allows us to be less judgmental of others as well as ourselves.
4. Happiness is the harvest of a quiet mind.
We need to anchor our thoughts on peace, prose, security, and possibly divine guidance. Negative thoughts and emotions sink to our subconscious and cause all kinds of difficulties and maladies in our life. When your attention wanders bring it back to the contemplation of your goals and the good in you. Make a habit of this and subsequently, you discipline your mind. This can be life-affirming.
Learning to adjust our thinking to be more compassionate involves a small but regular commitment to retraining our emotional distress enable us to handle and recover from our stress better. If people can activate their self-soothing system, through generating thoughts and images of kindness, they might be more likely to manage difficult feelings and will be less likely to engage in an unhelpful and destructive behaviour.
You have the freedom to choose a good or bad habit. To form a new habit, you must be convinced that it is desirable. Happiness is desirable!
5. Interpersonal relationship engineer happiness in one's life.
Interpersonal relationships are important and necessary for our continuous existence. Without them, our lives would have virtually no meaning or purpose. An interpersonal relationship provides companionship. No matter how self-reliant you are, you can't be alone or live in isolation.
As humans, we cannot avoid interactions with one another. Relationship with other humans is the most fundamental aspect of our lives because we are innately social, and are shaped by our experiences with others. Whether in the home, at work or any other place, we have acquaintances with people-casual or close-and maintain relationship everywhere we go.
A close association or acquaintance between one or two people that may be brief or enduring is called interpersonal relationship. The association may be based on love, solidarity, regular business interactions, or some other type of social commitment. Interpersonal relationships are formed in different contexts that can vary from marriage, family or kinship relations, friendship, relations with associates, work, neighbourhoods, and places of worship. These contexts account for the different types of interpersonal relationship: marriage, family, friendship, professional etc.

The Delivering Power of God

Recently when my wife suddenly became ill, I said to someone, "Complex situations are irrelevant when it comes to the delivering power of God." And I do very much believe that to be true.
There are many examples of the delivering power of God in all sorts of situations recorded in the Bible. Perhaps one of the most familiar is the parting of the Red Sea for the children of Israel. The situation was indeed complex, hopeless to say the least, and apparently, there was no solution.
But the delivering power of God intervened in a most dramatic way. The waters parted and they walked across on dry ground. Can you imagine? Dry ground?
Some 40 years later, the children of Israel saw waters parted and they crossed the Jordan River, at flood stage, once again on dry ground. The Scriptures also tell us about years later, when the great Prophet Elijah struck water with his mantle and the water parted, allowing him and Elisha to walk across, you guessed it, on dry ground. Then, a short time later, Elisha did the same thing, striking the water with his mantle, and walking across on dry ground.
It is absolutely baffling to our human brains how water can be parted, allowing someone, or a multitude of people, to walk across on dry ground! Four times in the Scriptures we see the delivering power of God bringing that to pass. Were there other times? We don't know.
We do know that on one occasion God did not part the Sea of Galilee in order that Jesus could cross on dry ground. Instead, Jesus simply walked on the water! What?! This awesome display of the power of God is astonishing to read about in the Gospels.
Now imagine what it was like for the apostles to see it happen firsthand! And add to that, Jesus invited Peter to walk on the water! And Peter did, for a brief moment or two!
These five records in the Bible remind me of the verses in Isaiah where God tells us His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways. He goes on to say, "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)
In other words, God has solutions we've never even thought about.
That's why I do believe complex situations are irrelevant when it comes to the delivering power of God. Odds don't matter. God has solutions.
There are numerous records in the Bible clearly showing the delivering power of God. When you read those accounts it is obvious God not only has solutions, but He desires to help His people. And that greatly encourages you to believe and trust Him.
During these past several weeks my wife and I have been very mindful of a number of the promises of God recorded in His Word. Our prayers echo those loving promises. Most especially, the following two verses have been both very encouraging and very inspiring.
Isaiah 41:10-13
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Help! I Can't Sleep!

Have you ever had one of those nights? You know the kind; the constant tossing and turning, the tight muscles, the inability shut your mind off? It seems like that stupid alarm clock is staring you in the face. If only you could just relax and let it all go instead of worrying if you'll have enough coffee to make it through tomorrow.
Sleep is a strange thing. We need it, we crave it, we fight it, we do our best to control it instead of it controlling us. Unfortunately, our bodies don't function as they should when we are sleep deprived. The crux of it is, ongoing research has now established that not getting enough sleep is detrimental to our health. When we sleep our bodies repair vital organs and body systems, such as our adrenal glands, and cement our long-term memory while helping us to make sense of the days events.
For example, lack of sleep can severely weaken your immune system, accelerate tumor growth, cause a pre-diabetic state which can make you feel hungry even when you've already eaten. Even one night of poor sleep can impair your memory, decrease your problem solving ability and impair performance on physical and mental tasks, not to mention how these issues can manifest themselves in your body.
The average person needs six to eight hours of sleep each night. For most people sleeping under six hours will actually accelerate aging and increase your risk of diabetes. But everyone is different, some need more and some need less, if you feel as if you're dragging during the day, you need a full eight hours of sleep.
So the question becomes, when we are stressed and can't get a good night's sleep what are we to do? While nutrition, exercise, meditation and how we think about our life are major factors in our health and stress levels, whether we get enough sleep may be the most deciding factor in our health and well-being. Here are some suggestions to help you get out of the stress rut and get some much-needed sleep.
Avoid before-bed snacks, particularly grains and sugars This will raise blood sugar and inhibit sleep. Later, when blood sugar drops too low (hypoglycemia), you might wake up and not be able to fall back asleep.
Sleep in complete darkness or as close as possible When light hits the eyes, it disrupts the circadian rhythm of the pineal gland and production of melatonin and seratonin. Also, there should be as little light in the bathroom as possible so you aren't jolted by bright light (think Gizmo and Gremlins) if you have to get up in the middle of the night.
No TV right before bed Even better, get the TV out of the bedroom or even out of the house, completely. It is too stimulating to the brain and it will take longer to fall asleep. Also disruptive of pineal gland function for the same reason as above.
Read something spiritual or religious This will help to relax. Don't read anything stimulating, such as a mystery or suspense novel, as this may have the opposite effect. In addition, if you are really enjoying a suspenseful book, you might wind up unintentionally reading for hours, instead of going to sleep.
Pay off debt Make a plan to pay off what is burdening you. It's hard to sleep when we are worried about how we are going to make those payments. Devising and implementing a plan of attack will empower you, making you more relaxed that everything will be alright now that there is a plan to work from.
Avoid toxic and negative people or situations If you are constantly bombarded with stressful people or situations, find a way to remove yourself. Either discuss your situation with them and let them know how you feel so you can work on improving the situation or you may have to eliminate them from your circle, even for a short time.
Use breathing techniques Like EFT, breathing exercises help refocus our minds and allow our parasympathetic nervous system to come forward. This will help relax you and regain control of your thoughts.
Bring ALL thoughts under YOUR control Negative thinking leads to more stress. Most of the negative thoughts are about what you can't control anyway, so why not take control of those thoughts? Write a list of all the negative thoughts that go through your mind. Now, take some time and restate those thoughts in a positive way. Something like, "Why did I just try to do that? I did it wrong, I should have known I wouldn't get it right." Now try saying, "Oopsies, I just messed up. But I'm trying something new, I will get better at it."
Write in a journal Keep a journal or spiral notebook next to your bed. When you find yourself having thoughts racing through your mind, write them down. It doesn't matter what it is. It could be as simple as get milk tomorrow at the store, or as extreme as admitting you feel stressed and hopeless. Just the act of writing things down removes them from constantly coursing through your mind.
There are many ways to deal with stress and bring your body, mind and spirit back into balance. Because stress is a major factor in the majority of health problems plaguing people today, taking steps to learn how to manage the traps that drag us into the spiral of sleepless nights will empower us to take the steps needed to climb out. Not only that, being able to manage stress will help your mental well-being. Being a positive thinker has an effect on our health because our bodies actually respond to our emotions on a cellular level.
There are many pills out there promising to reduce your stress and/or help you sleep. The problem is, some of them can be harmful or addictive. Learn how to use any of the techniques above in a way that works for you and you won't have to resort to dangerous drugs to bring on that lovely slumber.
So, bottom line, give yourself the tools you need to combat stress so you can get some much-needed rest.

Personal Development Who Needs It?

Personal Development and Why You Need It.
Why?
Why do you need personal development you ask; well the answer is rather simple. If you do not develop continually you are going backwards by going nowhere at all. Life will continue to evolve shift, expand and contract and if you stop being able to develop new skills and talents; then you will get left in the dust. You have so many undiscovered talents and skills in you it is almost funny but the sad truth is many people take their gifts and talents to the grave with them. Many people never afford the world the opportunity to experience the uniqueness of their character that only they can offer. So do not cheat the world of your presence and ideas make personal development a weekly task and find out what you are truly capable of.
Personal Development
Personal development is the key to becoming the best you that you can be. No one on earth is at a point in life where all of the skills and talents they have are all firing on the same cylinder. We all have room to grow and mature no one is beyond personal development. The human species is one of the most complex and marvelous creatures aside from our seemingly insatiable appetite for war and violence of course, we are pretty creative as well as resilient. However, we all need to continually train our minds and bodies to be better. When you stop seeking some form of development you will plateau out and will eventually succumb to complacency and procrastination. Arriving at a level of extreme complacency will lead to being unfulfilled and eventually psychologically and possibly social digression. You must keep moving or else your passion for life will die and take you with it. A passionate pursuit for personal development is the only way to avoid this tragedy.
Remember that personal development consists of not only being conscience of your physical health but your mental health as well. Pursuing mental and physical wholeness requires that one word that the lazy shun like the plague and the dedicated hold dear "commitment". While serving in the Marine Corps the word commitment was engraved into our mines religiously. This brutal yet effective method of indoctrination caused me to develop good internal habits that I still carry with me to this day. While pursuing various aspects of personal development; you must accept that training yourself to be a student of personal development comes at a price.
Skill Development
Everyone has a certain set of skills they have acquired over many years of working however, like anything you have learned how to do; those skills can continually be fine-tuned. I was reading a book a while back called the millionaire mind and it discussed how successful people do not simply rely on innate talent but they lean heavily on their ability to sharpen those talents and skills to remain successful. Being a good business owner is one thing but being a great one requires effort and discipline. Furthermore, developing your skill sets will not only make you a better asset to your occupational field but it will also add a since of fulfillment knowing that you are making a deliberate attempt to become the best you possible.
Personal Development and Success
You will be hard pressed to find one individual that is classified as successful that has not made learning and development a vital part of their lives. Let me add that being able to go to a great learning institution and attain a degree is a very fundamental aspect of personal development. Personal improvement requires you to dive into your psychological patterns, your habits, relational issues, spending practices and a plethora of other things looking for the perfect balance in each. If you have time, check out a book called "THE COMPLETE 101 COLLECTION "by John C. Maxwell it's a great tool. It expounds on the multiple aspects of personal development and how it directly correlates with a leader's effectiveness. I use it daily and will actually be putting together a life overhaul program based on some of his key discoveries and viewpoints on leadership and development.
Being the best you can be requires you to train yourself to push beyond excuses and setbacks and find the fortitude to become the excellent version of yourself you may have been longing to become. So stop running from personal development you may be.. no let me rephrase that you are indeed running from your destiny to be great.

The Secret Sauce to Achieving Goals

Are You Setting Specific Effective Goals?
You can set big goals, but make sure you can then break them down into smaller 'micro' goals. Once you've set a goal, then you need to be specific so you know what steps you need to take, and work backwards to create a schedule of actions needed to succeed. Actions make the goal setting system effective.
Are Your Goals Inclusive?
Focusing on only one part of your life is something you need to consider. When goals are multifaceted, you can have an impact on all areas of your life. You will find there is synergy across multiple domains, and you can easily achieve more than one in different areas with the same actions. There is no point achieving financial goals if you are not happy. Your personal life, happiness also needs to be considered. Aim for being complete, happy, and focused. Therefore, make sure your goals are inclusive and have an impact on other areas of your life.
Is Your Action Plan Relative?
Once you create the schedule, you need to truly consider how relative it is of reality. Say your goal is to be healthy and reduce your cholesterol by 10 points in six months. This means you need to exercise and eat right. If you don't schedule in the time needed, you won't achieve this goal. It doesn't happen by luck, or magic. Think of these as 'resources'. Time is a resource. A personal trainer, nutrition coach are resources to help you achieve that goal.
Are You Learning from Your Mistakes?
Often when setting goals, instead of learning from failure, people give up. Using the example above, once you implement your schedule to reach the goals that you have set, when you notice there are things you've forgotten to take into account, don't give up. Learn from the failure and modify your schedule to be more realistic.
You will probably have to rewrite some of your goals and your schedule, and this is the whole point of goal setting. Adapt, modify where you need to. Many people believe failure is something negative, however failure is the mother of all learning. So take it on the chin, learn and adapt to be even better.
Are You Accountable and Evaluating Often?
Accountability is key. Schedules are very important to the success of reaching any goal in life. Build a 'smart' calendar of tasks and activities that get you from where you are now to your goal. Make it a daily habit, a ritual, something you do every single day. You can even develop a simple checklist to check off every day to keep you on track. Identify what's not working, modify and also keep doing things that are working well for you. You can even ramp up the intensity of whats really working well for you to achieve your goals faster.
Are Your Goals Empowering?
Use positive language, ALWAYS! When writing a goal it's important to write them in a positive sense, and in a way that empowers you. Writing down a goal and then changing the words to sound more positive to make it more empowering. For instance, "losing weight" seems like a good goal, but for some people it might signify deprivation. So instead, you might frame the goal as "Look amazing in my bikini for my summer holidays."
Do You Have Too Many Goals?
Keep it simple. Don't try to have too many goals all at once. Everyone has a personal life experience, preferences, needs and wants. If you have set goals in too many areas of life at once, you will probably become overwhelmed and stuck. Break it down, achieve, set new goals, and move on. You don't need to do everything in one day. Aim for the small wins that lead to bigger achievements.
As you break down bigger goals into 'micro' goals, you will find yourself achieving something every day. Getting your 30 minutes of exercise every day is a WIN! So keep the momentum going and make it a daily habit.
Changing your lifestyle. Achieving any goal or simply aspiring to improve in any area of your life is a process. You must apply a conscious awareness to everything you do, and how you think and feel. So before kicking off your new goal strategy, work through these questions and set the foundation for success!
