Ever fallen in love with a random stranger because of his ideas? I think we fall in love all the time, just that we are not ready to recognise it as such. Remember that boy you saw in the bus stop a few days back who was talking about something? Maybe you do not remember what he was talking about, but you still remember the fact that you had a mild interest in him because he was talking about something interesting. As human beings, we are inherently interested in things that are different, yet same. Different in the sense that we do not know about them; yet similar since it has to pertain to us in some way for us to take an interest in it in the first place.
So, what makes love in ideas interesting?
Well, for starters, considering that you are reading this article as an idea is more than proof enough that you are interested in knowing something more. Doesn't that, by itself, lend some credibility to the fact that it is worth exploring? I am not at all saying that it is more interesting than some other kind of love. Because love, by itself, is a very vast field and I am not at all qualified to be talking about love. However, (and this is just my opinion), love in ideas is one of the basic driving factors behind the spoke of human ingenuity.
Consider this: What if a man in England in the 1600s never fell in love with the idea of a falling apple? Well, the human scientific achievements might have gone back a few decades. Or, going even further, what if Archimedes never considered the idea of water falling out of his bathtub as one of the most general principles of science? The examples are innumerable.
So, with that, let us come back to our original premise: Can we extend this love in ideas to love in the people with these ideas? We usually do not remember the people whom we find interesting in our daily lives, but a faint echo of the ideas they propagate remain with us for our entire lives. Think of it like the Butterfly Effect. In essence, it means that something that was insignificant at one point in our lives can go on resonating through our ages to such an extent that they have highly significant outcomes later on.
Summing it up, love is more than just a way of attraction, even when it is as fleeting as that of a random encounter amongst millions in the tumult of daily life. However, what we carry with us as seeds of ideas are what makes these moments shine through, unbeknown even to us.
So, step out into the world and dazzle it with the brilliance of your ideas. You are making a difference!
